Perhaps I am speaking only for myself, but as an impressionable young person when Visconti's movie was released, the Tadzio character struck me as have few others in film. To this day the scenes of him on the beach are ingrained in my mind along with that wonderful widescreen shot in Satyricon of Ascyltos embracing Gito. More than any other, that latter image made me realize what the possibilities were.
